Unit 7

Hello everyone,

I found this exercise very relaxing. The person I chose for this exercise was my mother. She passed away in April 2009 and I miss her dearly. This exercise was easy when it came to me picturing her because I try to do it all the time. I picture her saying some of the wise phrases she use to use. I didn’t really understand the purpose of the light over the head and it didn’t really do anything for me but I was able to meditate on my mother’s presence and that made me feel good. Meditation has fostered an increase in my spiritual wellness by allowing me to remove bad thoughts and meditate on positive thoughts. I now meditate at least four times a week, which helps me to release any stress that I may have being dealing with from unpleasant situations. I can continue to apply these practices in my life by making sure to always practice loving kindness and exercises that promote mind and body health.

The saying: "One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself", basically means we cannot teach what we do not know. The way this applies to the wellness professional is, how can they teach mind and body health if they have not made the journey themselves. I cannot imagine teaching a patient to journey to integral health if I have not yet done it myself. I believe that we as health wellness professionals owe it to our patients to have developed our health psychologically, physically, and spiritually to better assist them. How can I know if they have reached the point of health and wellness and total flourishing if I have not experienced it? Implementing psychological and spiritual growth in your personal life would mean for me to be serious about making time to implement these practices and stick to it. Just like the old saying goes, “if you don’t use it, you will lose it”. Small steps will be my goal to bigger steps.

  1. Hi Myra,
I think that positive thoughts are very important to the development of inner strength that make it possible to reach a balance between the inner and outer aspects of human body.. It also means the better understanding of personal capacities to become a better and happy person. It goes beyond physical satisfaction, is the aspiration of self-improvement. It is the energy that rises from within that gives self-awareness, open mindedness, and greater capacity to reach happiness.

    1. Hi Luna,

I agree, positive thoughts are very important to the development of inner strength. I practice positive thinking away the time and try not to let the negative thoughts that may enter my mind consume me. I think both positive and negative gives us energy, but it is our goal to gey rid of the negative and use the positive. Thanks.

  2. Hello Myra,
I'm so sorry you lost your mother a few years back. It must have been very comforting to experience the closeness of your mom during meditation.
I have a friend that wants to open a alternative health clinic in Mexico to help people heal from cancer. I told him that he can't just include healing the body, but he has to include mind and spirit as well, because one without the other just doesn't work.
What small steps are you currently taking to help your integral health?

Thanks. One great step that I took was to start going back to church. It helps a great deal. Small step consist of meditation and yoga. I know I'll get where I need to be in time. The small steps are just a start. Thanks.
